The Permanent Secretary of the organisation, Professor Dorothé C. Sossa handed the document in Yaounde on November 28.
Legal experts and lawyers in Cameroon will henceforth have their work rendered easy as there now exists both the French and English versions of the Organisation for the Harmonisation of Business Law in Africa (OHADA) Law and all its Uniform Acts.
The Permanent Secretary of OHADA, Dorothé C. Sossa on Monday, November 28, 2016 handed the English version of the document to the Secretary General at the Presidency, Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh at the Unity Palace who received her in audience on behalf of President Paul Biya. The document comes within the context of an ongoing strike by Common Law Lawyers in Cameroon with one of their demands being the provision of the English version of the OHADA law.
Talking to the press after discussions with Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh, the Permanent Secretary of OHADA told the Secretary General at the Presidency that all the Uniform Acts of OHADA that govern the world of business and economic activities are henceforth available in English. He added that he handed hard copies of the official translated version of the OHADA Treaty and all the Uniform Acts for the attention of the Head of State, President Paul Biya. Discussions between Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh and his guest also focused on the life and functioning of OHADA whose permanent secretariat is in Cameroon’s capital, Yaounde. OHADA brings together 17 countries.
The OHADA law is a legal instrument used in Francophone Africa and now the official English translation is available. The law and its Uniform Acts govern commercial companies and economic interest.
