Prof. Mayatta Ndiaye MBAYE, Permanent Secretary of OHADA, undertook a diplomatic mission to Bujumbura (Burundi) from 15 to 17 May 2024.
During his visit, he was received in audience by Mrs Domine BANYANKIMBORA, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Burundi. He also held working sessions with several public figures and authorities, including the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Transport and Tourism, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning. On the private sector front, the Permanent Secretary had fruitful discussions with the President of the Bujumbura Bar Association and the Secretary General of the Federal Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Burundi (CFCIB). He was also granted an audience with the French Ambassador to Burundi.
On the sidelines of these various meetings, the Permanent Secretary of OHADA gave a press conference on Friday 17 May 2024 at Hôtel Source du Nil.
All these activities provided an opportunity to showcase OHADA and the strengths of its legal system, which can make a decisive contribution towards improving the business climate in Burundi and thereby attracting investment to the country. A study commissioned by the Government of Burundi is due to begin in the coming weeks to assess the feasibility of the country joining OHADA.
The Permanent Secretary reiterates his full readiness to support Burundi's efforts to join the OHADA family.
