As part of the OHADAC development, we are pleased to inform you of the forthcoming establishment of the ACP Legal Chapter in Panama which shall be responsible to participate in the construction of an harmonized business law space in the Caribbean. Panama is indeed a key country in our region: 5% of world trade passes through its canal, the Caribbean Colon free zone is the world second largest area of wholesale distribution and the first of the Greater Caribbean, the airport platform of Tocumen concentrates 75% of the air transportation regional industry (5 times a day connections to Havana, Santo Domingo, Caracas, Port of Spain but also St. Martin, Kingston, Port au Prince, Barranquilla, San Juan...) and its financial sector, -banking and insurance-, has more than 100 operators... Historically, Panama is a Caribbean country too. More than 75,000 men and women from Barbados, Martinique, Guadeloupe... participated in the digging of the trans oceanic canal. But it is also an internationally opened country with very strong ties with Central and Southern America, United States and China (10% of the Panamanian population has Chinese origins). The local Chapter will be led by multilingual recognized experts from Dr. Gilberto Boutin, former Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Panama, and a candidate for the office of Dean, lawyer, professor of private international law and author of numerous books on comparative law, Dr. Maribel Castillero, a lawyer and expert in insurance law, Dr. Erick Bravo Dutary, lawyer, member of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, former adjunct director of the Panamanian FBI (PTJ)...
