Washington (USA), October 12 and 13, 2017

photoOn October 12 and 13, 2017, the Permanent Secretary of OHADA, Professor Dorothé C. SOSSA participated at the International Symposium organized by the Initiative for Global Development (IGD) on the theme: “Attracting Private Equity Investments to Propel Inclusive Growth Opportunities for African Companies” held in Washington (USA).

The forum brought together more than 150 African and global business leaders to stimulate and increase US investment in Africa, particularly in medium-sized African companies, with a view to sustainable development and inclusive growth. For two days, participants exchanged lectures, panel discussions and interactive sessions to propose innovative solutions on the central theme: “investing in African businesses for the economic transformation of the Continent”.

During the forum, Professor Dorothé Cossi SOSSA, as a guest panelist, briefly introduced OHADA, its normative system, its institutional architecture, as well as the strengths and opportunities of its legal system. Returning to the central theme of the forum, he underlined that the OHADA space, because of its immense growth potential, offers capital investors excellent prospects for returns on investment, in conditions where legal certainty is guaranteed. He noted that, in addition to the general rules already designed to provide investors with the legal certainty necessary for the development of their activities, the strengthening of corporate governance rules and the protection of minority shareholders in OHADA law provides a fertile ground for equity investments in companies established within the OHADA area.

The Permanent Secretary thanks the organizers of the Initiative for Global Development (IGD) for their interest in OHADA and congratulates them on the successful organization of the forum.
